Leather care

Good leather is low-maintenance by design. A little attention twice a year keeps it going for a very long time.

Day to day

  • Wipe off dust and dirt with a soft, dry or slightly damp cloth.
  • Caught in the rain? Blot it and let it dry naturally, away from heaters and direct sun.
  • Light scuffs usually rub out with a thumb. The oils in your skin do the work.
  • Don’t overload it. Leather stretches and doesn’t shrink back.

Twice a year

  • Work in a neutral leather conditioner with a soft cloth. Test it somewhere hidden first; it can darken the shade slightly.
  • Buff off the excess after ten minutes.

Storage

  • Stuff it with paper so it keeps its shape and store it in a breathable cloth bag, somewhere cool and dry.
  • Keep it out of plastic. Leather needs to breathe.

What not to do

  • No washing machines, no soaking, no household cleaners, no hairdryers.
  • Keep it away from perfume, sanitiser and ink.

Colour deepening, soft creases and a bit of shine where you handle it most are all normal. That’s patina, and it’s the reason to buy leather in the first place.
